Sarah Chalkie Cloonan has worked, tutored and exhibited extensively throughout her 40 years of practise.
She first attended Art school in the 1980s. While at the Byam Shaw, she studied drawing, painting and printmaking. Later at the City and Guilds of London Art School, under the tutelage of Flavia Irwin, Lady de Grey RA, She was trained in applying paint and materials to walls, floors and furniture. It was here that she developed her interest in the Omega Workshops and started applying paint in the domestic sphere, blurring the boundaries between art and the everyday.
In 2018 Chalkie returned to study at the Kensington & Chelsea Colledge of Art to re-examine and update her practice. In 2019 she joined the Graduate Diploma course at the Royal College of Art, Graduating in 2020. In 2021 she graduated with an MFA in Painting from Camberwell UAL and a year later from Goldsmiths with an MA in Arts & Learning. Currently, Chalkie is researching and exploring how art and its processes might allow us to flourish and learn at any age.
Her research, discoveries and resulting work are documented in her Blog.
